British-FashionTopshop skirt fashion bloggerVictoria Beckham

Today I’m supporting home grown British fashion by sporting a white Victoria Beckham shirt with a skirt from Topshop’s current season.

There are so many great designers here in the UK and what I love about them is that they don’t steer too far away from traditional British tailoring. Stella McCartney and Jonathan Saunders are possibly my two favourites.

I enjoy dressing up as much as the next person, but my growing interest in fashion all began from playing with textures and so for me, that is where the detail matters.

You can’t go wrong with a crisp, white shirt either; you don’t need to own many but it’s that one item you should have in your closet so invest in a good one. I’ve grown fond of Victoria Beckham’s collections because it’s minimalistic, understated and pretty timeless. It’s a safe buy.

If you love shopping then you’ll quickly discover that the biggest and easiest fashion mistake to make is spending a lot of money on a loud catwalk piece – fast forward 12 months and you’ll not only see how irrelevant it is but you’ll also wonder why you ever picked something so ghastly.

The skirt is a co-ord and comes as a set with a jacket, which you may have seen in my previous post. You can purchase either of these by clicking HERE.

White shirtI had lunch at Top 1 forever in East London with my sister, it’s a pretty location right by the Thames with a view of the O2 arena. Here is the sea bass with chorizo salad and pea purre. Yum!

Today is also my last day with Alfie before I return him, he’s been so popular with you all on the blog so here’s one last photo for the road. Bye Alfie!

I recently got sent a watch from Jord Watches and I’ve been wearing it all week. It’s a contrasting change from my heavy Marc Jacobs rose gold watch and seems to accessorise perfectly with my summer wardrobe. The watch is both chunky and dark red which makes in distinctive and eye catching so I’ve been getting a lot of compliments wearing this. The beauty of it being a wooden watch is that each and every detail and marking is unique and therefore no individual link has the same characteristic as the other.

The face of the watch is red although it appears brown photographed. I can’t tell you how light it feels, it’s even lighter than the Michael Kors bangle I’m wearing!

This summer I’ve been painting my nails in ‘Regents Place’ by Nails Inc. It’s from their gel effect range and is the closest I can get to a good manicure on a budget without going to a nail bar. Being a foodie, an avid traveller and a lover of fashion is an expensive hobby and doesn’t provide me with much room to save, so I figured I should indulge less on other things where possible in an attempt to save: especially as I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

Also featured in this post is my mum’s dog Alfie who is majorly photobombing here. My sister and I bought him for her when we left home to give her another baby to look after while her babies left home to work in New York and Sydney. I still live 2 hours away from her now that I work in London so don’t get to see her too often but she’s on holiday in Turkey at the moment so I am dog-sitting this cute little chap until she gets back.

House of Fraser kindly invited me to their head office on Thursday to preview their AW15 collections. For those of you who don’t live in the UK, House of Fraser are like the Bloomingdales of UK (or David Jones if you’re from Australia). They are a department store that stock the likes of Acne, 7 for all mankind, J Brand, Polo Ralph Lauren and Joseph.

Above all, they also house brands that are exclusive to them, ‘Therapy’ is quite often on point with current trends and brand for fast fashion that isn’t also owned and worn by everybody else you know (see above image) but my go to HOF brand is ‘Label Lab’. If “All Saints Spitalfields” is your style and you’re looking to update your entire wardrobe with half their store on a tight budget, try the Label Lab corner in House of Fraser as an alternative. Their line is super edgy and some of my most worn garments come from this house brand.

Shall I trade my Givenchy Antigona for this leopard baby this Autumn?

If you think next season will be full of dull, muted grey and blacks to match the gloomy British weather then think again.

This Autumn/Winter we’ll be seeing plenty of pop colour and textured knits.

I’d style these ‘Therapy’ pants with either a white off-shoulder ruffle top to achieve this season’s boho “Chloe girl” look or a white long sleeved body suit for a chic city look.

The main focal point and possibly most photographed item on the day was this studded DKNY backpack. I prefer it to the ever popular MCM backpack as it’s slightly more understated and easier to coordinate with an outfit. I’d sling this backpack over a pencil skirt and heels, balancing femininity with an added stroke of edge is a great technique for a head turning outfit.

Last but not least I have something extra special to share with you. The 70’s trend seen on Gucci and Burberry’s runway last year is still going strong and continuing through to the Autumn/Winter.

Next season’s Biba collection is very bohemian and has been inspired by a previous collection, originally released in the 70’s.

I was lucky enough to see their original collection in a glass box.

My favourite pick from the House of Fraser press day was this faux fur vest by Biba, expect to see a lot of faux fur next season. Easy to throw over anything: style it with a simple knit polo for added warmth this Autumn.

The House of Fraser Brand Event launched today with 40% off across all brands. I never seem to be quick enough with these things to get the best items so I already have a few things in my shopping basket.

[Bagsie! Dibs! and Shot gun!] This is what I’ve reserved in my basket so far…what do you think?
